A Writer's Journey Through Folklore

For those of you who missed my talk, I would like to share with you some of the slides taken from my presentation (the first few slides were mostly rants, which I'm going to omit, because rants can be boring!

I rekindled my interest in children's literature when my daughter was born...

But good quality children's books published in Malaysia (in English and even Malay,) seemed lacking...

Published writers also felt a lack of support from bookstores...

Since this was in the future, I decided bravely and optimistically to become a writer...

Timeless Tales of Malaysia

This has been an amazing year - I finally got a book published! Timeless Tales of Malaysia-a collection of folktales and legends from Malaysia -was published by Marshall Cavendish Children in March 2009.

It took eight rather long months from research, to writing out the stories, to editing the text and drawing the illustrations and at last adding the final touches to the last illustration before the book went to the printers. I had the help of a dtp artist, Lee Jin Jin, who coloured the illustrations with photoshop (what will we do without photoshop?)

Now all I'm waiting for is for the book to make an appearance in the book stores!

Timeless Tales of Malaysia is still available at the new Silverfish Books, located at Bangsar Village 2 and Kinokuniya, Kuala Lumpur in 2015!
